How well does your Thyroid Function?

Are you suffering from severe fatigue – especially in the mornings? Is your TSH Blood Test (Thyroid Function Test) within range?

Yet . . . you still don’t feel right?

Could your thyroid function still be the underlying issue?

The thyroid affects every cell in the body and we cannot achieve optimum health without a properly functioning thyroid gland. Research has shown that hypothyroidism has been associated with cancers like – breast, stomach, pancreas and colon.*

The thyroid may also underlie many chronic disease states, such as heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, autoimmune diseases, allergies, arthritis, gout, high and low blood pressure, infertility, obesity, psoriasis, to name a few.

In children it is believed that poor thyroid function may be at the base of autism, ADD, ADHD and allergies.

It is a huge problem within our society and one that needs to be addressed.

According to Dr David Brownstein, a world leader in the treatment of thyroid issues, even when the TSH Blood Test comes in “within range”, your thyroid could still be the underlying cause of your fatigue and just not feeling right! Throughout his 30 years of research and treating thyroid issues, Dr Brownstein estimates that at least 60% of the population suffer with undiagnosed thyroid illness.

Did your Thyroid Function Test return within “normal range” and you were told your thyroid is functioning perfectly? An easy test you can do at home is to check your “Basal Body Temperature”.

The full testing for thyroid is threefold:

  • Clinical testing
  • Signs and symptoms – there may only be fatigue here
  • Seven thyroid parameters – tested via blood test

At Austin Therapies – The London Road Natural Health Clinic – Brisbane – we are now able to offer complete thyroid testing. We test seven different parameters for the Thyroid Function Test and often find that the first five or six may test “within range” and then the last one or two indicate what is really going on.

Symptoms that you may also be experiencing are:

  • Extreme fatigue, especially in the mornings
  • Gaining weight and unable to lose it easily
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Frequent viral and bacterial infections
  • Headaches
  • Puffy eyes and around the extremities
  • Swollen tongue

NB: you may also present as sub-clinical, i.e. you may only be experiencing fatigue but still have an undiagnosed thyroid problem. Hence, it can be hard to diagnose without extensive blood tests.
